Aston Villa reach agreement to rename Villa Park, ‘NSWE set to sell naming rights’

Aston Villa could utilise the naming rights of Villa Park to navigate PSR concerns this summer.

There has been no shortage of speculation in the early stages of the summer surrounding the Villans and their financial situation.

This has seen varying reports suggest different permutations in terms of player sales heading into Unai Emery’s third full season in charge.

With that being said, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens could find a way around these monetary woes with the sale of naming rights to the historic B6 stadium in the coming weeks.

NSWE to agree naming rights deal for Villa Park

It is fair to say that Villa find themselves in a far from ideal situation once again, in familiar fashion to how they did nearly 12 months ago.

This ultimately forced them into various PSR-related signings with Lewis Dobbin, Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea all coming in as part of swap deals.

A similar method may be utilised by Monchi this summer, but the Spaniard could be helped massively by a financial boost from NSWE.

This could be in the pipeline as the Red, White, Claret & Blue Podcast exclusively reported (13 June) that the Villans are planning to sell the naming rights to Villa Park.

There is plenty of scepticism surrounding this development, but there is no doubt that it could prove to be a highly beneficial method of raising capital.

With Chelsea selling their Women’s team and a nearby hotel for sizable revenue, there is no reason why Sawiris and Co. won’t follow suit.

This could even see co-owner Edens utilise another one of his owned businesses to name the ground, with Fortress Investment Group potentially representing an excellent choice.

Many supporters in B6 would be against changing anything about the stadium, but a name like “Fortress Villa Park” is unintrusive and inoffensive to those fans.

Aston Villa could bank huge fee from Villa Park naming rights

In a world of PSR problems, any way of getting around issues which don’t involve selling key players can only be seen as a positive.

There have been a number of links for Morgan Rogers, Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana to potentially leave, but this method could negate the need for a big-money sale.

This has already been seen elsewhere with Everton striking a £10million-per-year deal for their new arena to be named the “Hill Dickinson Stadium”.

With Villa in European competition and fighting at the top end of the Premier League, they could demand a sizable amount more than what is seen as a paltry fee for the Toffees.

There would have to be careful steps taken with a sponsor if linked to Sawiris or Edens in any way, but as long as a fair amount is paid, there should be no issue with such a move.
