Stan Collymore reacts to shock Aston Villa transfer news he’s seen on social media

Aston Villa look set for a busy transfer window as they aim to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on Champions League qualification at the end of the season.

The Villans have concerns about their ability to fall in line with the Premier League’s PSR restrictions, and securing a spot in Europe’s premier club competition would have gone a long way towards helping that. As a result, they must spend their money wisely this summer.

They are likely to lose out on Marcus Rashford to Barcelona, with their financial issues having surely had an impact on their ability to compete for that transfer.

As a result, the B6 outfit may be forced to sell some of their key players, if they want to bring in multiple fresh faces for Unai Emery to work with next season.

The Villans need to add strength to their wide areas, and with the opportunity to sign Rashford now seemingly off the table, they have instead turned their attention to another Manchester United wideman, Jadon Sancho.

Sancho found the net in Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League final victory over Real Betis, but is now due to return to his parent club upon the expiry of his loan deal.

Villa are the latest club to take an interest in the 25-year-old, and Stan Collymore has reacted to the news.

The former Villa frontman showed his disapproval of the link on his X account (5 June).

Sancho would be too much of a gamble for Villa

Sancho’s career really hasn’t progressed as people expected when he decided to return to England back in 2021.

The winger was building a big reputation for himself at Borussia Dortmund, but his progression has faltered badly since he moved to Old Trafford for £85million.

He showed flashes of the quality that he can provide at times during his stint at Chelsea this term, but on the whole, those flashes were few and far between.

Given Villa’s financial situation, they can’t afford to be taking gambles on players like Sancho, who may turn out to be something of a waste of money.

It could be a bargain transfer if Villa were able to help the former England international rediscover his best form, but it would be a far safer bet if they were to look elsewhere instead.
