Aston Villa hold presentations with family to help seal new Villa Park deal

Aston Villa have competed to sign Sverre Nypan since early April as they look to change their transfer strategy this summer.

The race for the Norwegian wonderkid has been ongoing since the start of April, with no signs of progression from Villa.

Nypan, 18, became the youngest player ever to represent Norwegian first division side Rosenborg in November 2022 at the age of just 15 years and 322 days old.

He was also the youngest player to score in a league match for his club at 16 years and 145 days old, and has featured for Norway’s Under-21 side.

Nypan move to Aston Villa now in doubt

Villa had undergone personal talks with Nypan, and there was plenty of confidence that negotiations with his club, Rosenborg, would be straightforward.

However, the Villans have now hit a roadblock in their pursuit of the Norwegian.

Reports from Norway stated that Villa’s interest was fading as a result of concerns as to whether the 18-year-old is ready for Premier League football.

However, according to The Athletic, delays on the players’ side have caused doubt over whether the move will go ahead.

Villa reportedly outlined plans to the Norwegian and his family to integrate him into Emery’s set-up.

A lot of work has gone into convincing Nypan to head to Birmingham – including showing presentations to his family – but he has yet to decide on his next club.

Nypan has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Girona.

Arsenal made their move for the youngster in January, but the attacking midfielder decided to stay in his native country until the summer.

Aston Villa should move on from Nypan

Villa can not afford to waste time on players who are unsure if they want to join the club.

Emery’s side should instead move on to other targets.

In a transfer window where Villa must comply with the profit and sustainability rules, they must ensure that they are quick and efficient in their pursuit of young talent.

This summer, the Villans face the prospect of having to sell some of their best assets, and too much focus on the Nypan deal could have them playing catch-up.

For an 18-year-old, Nypan has a huge life choice ahead of him, but if he doesn’t make it soon, Villa will have to make it for him.
