Marcus Rashford transfer: Expert shares ‘word’ on Aston Villa after new talks
Aston Villa’s chances of signing Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal have taken a hit.
The Manchester United loanee revived his career on loan at Villa Park, notching four goals and six assists in 17 matches before injury ended his season in April.
Unai Emery‘s side reportedly have a £40million option to purchase the 27-year-old but they do not have first refusal, which means other clubs can enter the race for his signature.

Aston Villa cannot afford Rashford after new developments
The failure to secure Champions League football could scupper any plans to bring Rashford in on a permanent basis.
That may not even matter, though, as the on-loan Villans ace is reportedly desperate to join Barcelona this summer, he is even willing to take a pay cut to seal his dream move, given the Spanish giants’ financial issues.
Emery’s side have their own Profit and Sustainability issues and iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that both of those factors will eliminate the chance for a Rashford deal.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, he said: “I don’t they can [afford him], I think his wages are a big problem.
“All the word is that Rashford has got his heart set on going to Barcelona
“There have been talks already, Deco, the sporting director at Barcelona, has mentioned him, and they are chatting to his brother, I think he has gone over there this week.
“That is starting to look like it might happen, so, I would say at the moment, the trail to Villa has gone cold.”

Rashford chase needs to end for Aston Villa
Villa’s pursuit of Rashford needs to be cancelled, given the fact that he has loftier ambitions than staying in B6, despite the club rescuing his career.
The Villans had a promising campaign in 2024-25 but they are nowhere near the size of the Catalan side and they cannot even offer elite European competition anymore.
Making a move for Rashford would be a huge mistake for a club that needs to be focussed on a sustainable financial future and if they continue, they may be left with egg on their faces.
