Martinez horrorshow, Cash gets 3/10 – Aston Villa player ratings v Man United

Aston Villa missed the chance to qualify for the Champions League after falling to defeat against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Villans travelled to Old Trafford on 25 May knowing that a win could see them earn a place in the top five and a place in Europe’s elite competition.

It was always going to be an uphill task when Emi Martinez was sent off in a moment of madness as he slammed into Rasmus Hojlund miles out of his goal.

Things could have been so different if referee Thomas Bramall hadn’t blown his whistle to disallow a Morgan Rogers goal for a foul that never was.

Of course, then Amad Diallo went on to score the winner just three minutes later to compound the frustrations of Emery and the travelling fans.

Christian Eriksen went on to score a second to make sure of the win for the Red Devils in a highly controversial day for Villa.

On a hugely frustrating and disappointing day for everyone associated with the claret and blue outfit, Villa News has rated the players out of 10.

Aston Villa let down by Premier League v Manchester United

It feels like a total injustice that Villa will be playing in the Europa League next season after a terrible decision from the referee.

There was no foul on Bayindir, the Turkish keeper dropped the ball, and Rogers took full advantage, but it was disallowed because the whistle was blown.

This leaves Villa out of pocket moving into the new season, as PSR problems are likely to persist with the loss in revenue from not playing Champions League football.

On another day, the decision isn’t given, Villa get the lead and goes on to get the single point that they needed to finish in the top five.

Emery has been let down by the Premier League and by his players, who were simply dreadful for 90 minutes at Old Trafford and aren’t immune from criticism.
