Emery walks out of interview after Martinez exit question at Aston Villa, ‘No way’
Unai Emery wasn’t waiting around when asked a question about the future of Emi Martinez at Aston Villa.
The Argentina international has been consistently linked with a move away from B6 after crying on the pitch after the win against Tottenham.
This has sparked concern among Villa fans that they are set to part ways with their World Cup-winning keeper in the upcoming window.
As a result, it was little surprise that Emery was asked about Martinez’s potential exit, not that he was one for holding a conversation about matters.

Emery unimpressed by Martinez question at Aston Villa
It has been nothing short of a stellar few years for the shot-stopper since signing from Arsenal after winning the FA Cup in North London.
This has seen him win three major titles on the international stage while also playing a key role as Villa earned a place in the Champions League last season.
As a result, losing the keeper would be hugely disappointing for fans in B6 as Emery looks to continue his excellent work since coming in.
A departure for Martinez to Saudi Arabia would certainly feel like a waste of talent, regardless of any PSR requirements in the Midlands.
With rumours swirling around Villa Park, it is little surprise that Emery would be asked a question about his shot-stopper’s future ahead of the clash against Manchester United.
With the question put to him live on TNT Sports (25 May), the Villa boss simply said, “No way” before saying “See you later” and walking out of the interview.
Aston Villa fans given hope for Martinez stay
There is no Villa supporter who would want to see the 32-year-old depart in the summer after such an excellent spell as number one.
The world’s number one has become an icon in his time at Villa Park, and calling that short would certainly prove to be a blow.
Stat | Emi Martinez |
Appearances | 211 |
Clean sheets | 69 |
As a result, this short response from Emery may shed some light on the situation isn’t as clear cut as it initially seemed after the Tottenham game.
It will certainly be interesting now to see what happens in the coming weeks and whether Martinez is to depart before the new season.
