Aston Villa ‘reach agreement over Morgan Rogers sale’ to Manchester City

Morgan Rogers has set the Premier League alight since joining Aston Villa last year.

The former West Brom academy ace, who spent time at Manchester City and Middlesbrough before heading to Villa Park, has scored 14 goals and supplied 15 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions this season for Unai Emery’s side.

Rogers’ impressive form has led to him being linked with a move away from Aston Villa.

His former club Man City have been linked, with Pep Guardiola recently admitting the attacker has been “exceptional” since moving to B6.

Aston Villa PSR issues to force Unai Emery sales

Aston Villa have PSR worries ahead of the end of June.

They face a crunch clash against Manchester United on Sunday (25 May) in their final Premier League match of the season.

Aston Villa’s top-ranking officials are reportedly frustrated by limitations on what the club can spend despite the vast wealth of owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.

However, rules are rules and it seems there’s an acceptance that players will need to be sold in the upcoming summer transfer window – potentially before the end of June – in order to avoid a breach that could lead to a Premier League points deduction.

Aston Villa decide on Morgan Rogers sale

Rogers is no doubt one of the most valuable players in English football.

He’s only 22 years old, he’s an attacking player, he’s proven himself in the Premeir League and Champions League and he’s a fully capped England international.

Selling him – and only him – could solve Aston Villa’s PSR issues.

However, French journalist Sebastien Vidal has reported via X on 25 May that everyone is in agreement at Aston Villa that Rogers will not be sold in the summer transfer window.

Guardiola is reported to have a “strong interest” in re-signing the former Man City attacker.

However, Villa want to keep hold of him despite PSR fears, meaning the Citizens have now missed out on Rogers and Liverpool-bound Bayern Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
