Emi Martinez ‘to stay at Aston Villa’ after what Dunn saw him do at Villa Park

Aston Villa could be set to lose some of their biggest stars this season, despite qualifying for Europe for a third consecutive season.

PSR issues are once again the bane of Aston Villa going into the transfer window.

Stars such as Ollie Watkins have already been linked away from Villa as they prepare to battle the financial restrictions.

Signings are still needed if Unai Emery’s team are to stay near the top of the table, therefore, one or two players may be sacrificed.

It was thought that Emi Martinez would be sold this summer to bring in extra funds, but journalist Andy Dunn disagrees with this.

Dunn believes Martinez will stay at Aston Villa despite Villa Park tears

Speculation surrounding Martinez’s future has heightened in recent weeks.

The Argentine has become one of the best goalkeepers in the world at Villa Park since his move in 2020.

However, there have been reports that Martinez will move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

Speculation grew even further on Friday after Martinez appeared to wave goodbye to Villa fans in the aftermath of the Birmingham outfit’s 2-0 victory over Spurs.

Yet despite all of this, journalist Dunn does not think the Argentine will leave Villa Park this summer.

In Sunday Mirror, page 65, (18 May), he wrote: “The tears, waves and blown kisses at the end of Aston Villa’s routine victory over Tottenham on Friday night suggested that Emiliano Martinez had played his final game for the club at Villa Park.

“The strong suggestions are that the Argentine keeper will be heading to Saudi Arabia for a bumper pay day.

“On the other hand, he might have just been looking for a spot of extra acclaim and love from the Villa fans.

“My guess is he will start next season at Villa Park.”

Martinez is one of Villa’s most expendable stars this summer

As good as Martinez is, he is certainly one of Villa’s more expendable stars this summer.

More quality signings are needed at Villa if they are to truly establish themselves as a Champions League outfit.

Therefore, if sales are needed, Martinez’s departure needs to be considered before any other stars.

The goalkeeper has been poor in big matches this season, and if Emery can get a big fee for him, Villa should not think twice about letting him leave.
