Aston Villa line up ‘one of the best young defenders in Europe’ in £21m deal
Aston Villa already have plans in place to significantly bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.
As of right now, Aston Villa‘s main focus will be on securing Champions League football for next season, though, with just one game remaining, time is running out.
Manchester United play host to the Villans in the final clash of the season, in a game that could be a must-win for their hopes of being in the Champions League.
However, work is already underway behind the scenes at Villa Park on a recruitment front, with a deal for a centre back lined up.

Valencia defender wanted at Villa Park next season
Aston Villa will be fully aware of how big the summer transfer window will be as they look to continue their progression under Unai Emery, and they have already identified a target to bolster their defensive lineup.
According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (18 May, pg 65), Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera is being monitored by Villa ahead of a potential summer swoop.
Valencia | Games | Tackles won | Duels won |
Mosquera | 35 | 31 | 117 |
Mosquera has thrived in La Liga at just 20 years old, and is already regarded as “one of the best young central defenders in Europe” and still has plenty of room for further development.
The Spaniard has a market value of £21million, which has also alerted Atletico Madrid to his situation at Valencia, with the club potentially forced to consider his exit due to his contract expiring in the summer of 2026.

Aston Villa need defensive reinforcements
With Tyrone Mings ageing and potentially on his way out, and others potentially not at the level required, Mosquera would be an excellent piece of business for the Villans.
However, his signing is far from the only one needed this summer if they are to keep progressing under Emery, and potentially go one step further in Europe.
Despite a valiant effort, their Champions League exit to PSG showcased the areas in which they lack some quality, and it is imperative that they address this summer.
