Unai Emery not deterred from Axel Disasi transfer at Aston Villa after developments

Unai Emery is fully focused on the final weeks of the season, as he tries to secure another year of Champions League football with Aston Villa.

However, this season has highlighted to Villa the importance of having squad depth to cope with an increased number of games.

With this in mind, Emery is looking towards the summer transfer window too, preparing the signings to make sure that the Villans move forward again.

Axel Disasi has spent the second half of the season on loan with the Villans, joining from Chelsea, and it seems Emery is prepared to make that permanent.

Emery keen on Disasi despite struggles

Villa did well in the Champions League this season, reaching the quarter-finals, but finalists Paris Saint-Germain proved to be a step too far.

Emery’s men gave a good account of themselves, although Disasi struggled when playing in his unfamiliar position at right-back on the biggest stage.

Nevertheless, it has been reported by French outlet Foot Mercato (15 May) that this has not deterred Emery’s interest in keeping him on a full-time basis.

The report states that the 27-year-old’s mentality and dedication has earned him plaudits at Villa Park, encouraging them to look at a permanent deal.

With the Villans potentially being a Champions League rival for Chelsea next term, the Blues may be reluctant to accept an offer from Emery’s side, with talks already taking place.

Disasi could be a useful signing at Aston Villa

There are bound to be some reservations from Aston Villa fans over a potential permanent deal for Disasi’s services, given he has struggled to play at right-back multiple times.

However, playing in the centre, the defender has proved to be a solid addition and with squad depth essential to success, having him as an option isn’t bad at all.

Furthermore, if the manager feels he has the correct attitude, that is always a benefit to have around the dressing room.

It may be a difficult deal to convince Chelsea to strike, though, if both sides are battling it out in the Champions League next term.
