Exclusive: Morgan Rogers set for ‘big-money sale’ after Aston Villa transfer news

Aston Villa look as though they might have no choice but to sell Morgan Rogers this summer.

Unai Emery has transformed Villa since he arrived in the West Midlands.

The Villans confirmed they will be competing in Europe next year for a third season in a row after beating Bournemouth 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday (10 May).

However, it looks as though for all their success, Villa might be forced to make some tough decisions this summer.

Villa must sanction high-profile sale before 30 June

As reported by the Daily Mail (7 May), to avoid breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, Villa need to make at least one significant sale before 30 June.

There is no shortage of options, with Emiliano Martínez, Ollie Watkins, and Rogers all linked with exits.

However, ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has suggested Rogers might be the player to make way, with Marcus Rashford’s future likely to have a big say in any decision.

“If Rashford doesn’t stay, the big-money sale might be Rogers,” King said.

“If Rashford is going, Villa will need to keep Watkins. Whether Villa accept [selling Watkins], I think it all comes down to Rashford. Villa can’t buy Rashford without selling Watkins because that would impact their financial fair play issues.

“Therefore, if Rashford is staying, I can’t see Watkins staying.”

Emery must navigate a difficult summer at Aston Villa

It looks as though there are going to be some major changes at Villa this summer.

There are a lot of question marks heading into the transfer window, with decisions to be made on the likes of Rashford, Watkins and Rogers.

It is unlikely that Villa will still have all of these players when next season gets underway. Therefore, Emery is going to need to navigate Villa through what appears set to be a transition period.
