Gabby Agbonlahor instantly reacts as Ollie Watkins breaks Aston Villa record
Ollie Watkins broke Gabby Agbonlahor’s record as Aston Villa beat Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
Unai Emery’s team travelled to the Vitality Stadium on 10 May and got three crucial points after winning 1-0 away from home.
Watkin’s opened the scoring against Andoni Iraola’s team just before the break, which was enough for the Birmingham outfit to seal the victory.
In scoring the lone goal of the fixture, the 29-year-old striker also made history as he pipped Agbonlahor in the Villans’ list of all-time Premier League goalscorers.

Agbonlahor screaming at linesman after Watkins scores in Aston Villa win v Bournemouth
Agbonlahor joked that he was screaming at the linesman after Watkins scored for the Lions against Bournemouth.
The ex-Villan replied in jest when Jason Cundy asked whether he hoped the goal would be ruled offside.
Player | Premier League goals |
1. Watkins | 75 |
2. Agbonlahor | 74 |
3. Swight York | 60 |
4. Dion Dublin | 48 |
5. Juan Angel | 44 |
After finding the back of the net at the Vitality Stadium, the 29-year-old Englishman is one strike ahead of Agbonlahor, who scored 74 times for the Lions in the top flight.
Speaking on talkSPORT (10 May, 18:28), Cundy asked: “Were you hoping it was offside?”
Agbonlahor responded: “Mate, I was screaming at the linesman.”

Emery delighted with victory at Vitality Stadium
Emery’s team were impressive at the Vitality Stadium, holding on to their lead in the closing stages of the game.
Jacob Ramsey received a red card in the 80th minute, and Iraola’s team tried to take advantage of the situation, but the Villans were defensively resolute.
Villa Park hopes for Champions League football next season, and the Lions are now level on points with Chelsea and Newcastle United, who have a game in hand.
The two play each other at St James’ Park on Sunday (11 May), allowing Villa to pounce on the team that drops points.
With only two Premier League games left to play for Emery’s team, it’ll be a nervous ending to the season for them.
The Villans made significant progress in Europe this season and will want to continue their success in the upcoming campaign.
Being in the Champions League may also allow the Lions to attract better players, with Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford’s loan deals set to expire.
As for Watkins, Emery shouldn’t sanction the striker’s exit next summer.
