Alisha Lehmann reacts as Aston Villa announce midfielder transfer news

Aston Villa may be safe from the bottom of the WSL, but they have had a disappointing season, failing to build on previous progress.

Form has picked up of late, though, with the Villans winning their last four games and Natalia Arroyo earning the manager of the month award.

The boss has plenty of work to do in the summer transfer window to ensure that her side doesn’t go backwards once again.

Jordan Nobbs to leave Aston Villa

With London City Lionesses securing their promotion to the top flight, there will be another well-backed side in the WSL next season.

Therefore, this is likely to increase competition rather than a story similar to that of Crystal Palace this season, who did not have what it takes to compete.

With that in mind, the current top-flight sides will be well aware that they need to up their game, Villa included.

Therefore, the West Midlands outfit have announced that Jordan Nobbs will be leaving Villa Park upon the expiry of her contract as the campaign comes to a conclusion.

The former England international took to Instagram to thank Villa for her time with the club, which was met by plenty of appreciation from her current and former teammates.

Alisha Lehmann, now of Juventus, liked the post, alongside Rachel Daly who also commented: “My little Peanut. My heart hurts. Going to miss you so much xxx”

Rachel Corsie, Dan Turner and Maz Pacheco will also be leaving the club.

Aston Villa need to push on

Nobbs has done well during her time with Aston Villa and has certainly played a big part in pushing the side since her arrival.

However, at 32-years-old, it’s understandable why Aston Villa are a side keen to look at fresher options to bring through the ranks as they look to progress forward.

Nobbs has played less for Villa this term.

As such an experienced player, it’s clear to see from the reaction of her teammates that the midfielder is a popular character on and off the pitch, representing how well respected she is.

What comes next for Nobbs is yet to be seen, although it wouldn’t be surprising to see her make the move to Newcastle United, who are eager to push themselves up to the WSL.
