Rashford £10m pay-off mooted at Man United to open door for Aston Villa move

Aston Villa pulled off a coup when they signed Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United in the January transfer window, but his future is unclear.

Aston Villa brought in Rashford to strengthen their front line, and they secured him on a loan deal with an option to buy in the summer.

Rashford came through the academy at Man United and had spent his entire career there, but he found himself frozen out of the squad under Ruben Amorim.

The England international could stay at Aston Villa beyond the end of this season, but there is one stumbling block over his option to buy.

Rashford’s wages would be a problem for Aston Villa

Rashford has a £40million option to buy in his contract at Villa Park, but his salary would be an issue for Villa if they were to activate it.

It has now been mooted that with Rashford unlikely to return to Man United, a pay-off could be agreed to facilitate his permanent move to Villa.

Speaking on talkSPORT (April 28, 11.50 pm), pundit Jason Cundy claimed that United could pay Rashford to get him out of his huge contract before selling him to Villa on a lower wage.

“A decision is going to have to be made. There’s the fee, £40m, then the wages. Something will have to be done about that,” Cundy stated.

“Villa can’t afford those wages. There might be a deal to be done between the club and the player to get him out of that contract.

“Man United might pay him, I don’t know, £10 million, to get him out of that contract. They then sell him to Villa and he can renegotiate his wages.”

Should Aston Villa keep Rashford?

Rashford is now set to miss the rest of the season through injury, meaning that if he does not stay, his time at Villa is at an end.

Although he showed signs of life, Rashford managed just four goals in 17 games, with two of those coming against Preston North End in the FA Cup.

Villa have crashed out of the running in all competitions in recent weeks, and are falling behind in the Premier League in the race for European competition.

If Villa do not qualify for the Champions League, a deal for Rashford may not be financially viable, even if he is keen on staying and Unai Emery believes he will justify the money next season.
