Aston Villa make announcement as season ending injury revealed at Villa Park

Aston Villa Women have released a statement as injury issues continue to take a toll at Villa Park.

The Villans have secured their spot in the Women’s Super League for next season after avoiding relegation as Crystal Palace fell down a division instead.

This comes after huge wins against Tottenham and Liverpool, which has seen Natalia Arroyo’s side rise up to 10th in the table ahead of Leicester City.

As positive as those wins were, they didn’t come without their injury problems as now the B6 club have been forced to publish a statement.

Aston Villa face season ending injury

There have been plenty of problems for the Women’s side to deal with at Villa Park this season and it is fair to say that they don’t need anymore.

This has seen Missy Bo Kearns miss a large number of games earlier in the campaign after undergoing surgery on her foot in December 2023.

The 24-year-old managed to make her return in February but has struggled to make a true impact as her recovery continues as the season plays out.

With that being said, Arroyo is bound to be disappointed as now Paula Tomas will miss the rest of the campaign through an issue of her own.

The Spain international went off after just 16 minutes against Liverpool, and now the Villans have confirmed that she will miss the final three games of the season.

Taking to X (28 April), the B6 club said: “We can confirm that Paula Tomas will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season after suffering a hip injury.

“Tomas has undergone successful surgery and will begin a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Paula.”

Aston Villa can cope with Tomas injury blow

If Villa had still been in a relegation fight, it is fair to say that an injury to the 23-year-old would have been met by a more frustrating reaction.

As it stands, safety has already been secured, and now the Villans can set their sights on next season in the WSL.

They will be hopeful that Tomas will be available moving into pre-season as she represents a key player after making 13 league appearances this season.

Moving into a second campaign in English football, alongside Gabi Nunes, there is every chance that she can improve in B6 and become a star.

It will be interesting to see how the Spaniard’s recovery goes and how that will be dealt with at Villa Park.
