Kevin De Bruyne ‘fine fit’ for Aston Villa after shock Sky Sports update

Aston Villa will be looking to strengthen their ranks in the summer transfer window after seeing their silverware hopes come to an end for another season.

After landing a Champions League spot last campaign, Villa had hoped to take another giant step forward by winning a trophy this term.

However, it wasn’t to be as Unai Emery’s men were knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals by PSG.

The West Midlands giants then suffered a somewhat humiliating 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final.

De Bruyne has been outlined as a ‘fine’ addition for Villa after Sky Sports’ transfer update

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne confirmed that he is leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

Sky Sports subsequently revealed on 24 April that Villa have held internal talks about a potential move for the 33-year-old.

James Sharpe subsequently wrote in the Mail on Sunday [27 April, Pg 89]: “The Midlanders would be a fine fit (for De Bruyne). Unai Emery loves to create a box midfield with two creative players behind the striker.”

De Bruyne would be a top addition for Aston Villa

If the Man City legend is willing to join another Premier League club after leaving the Etihad Stadium, he could be a top addition for the Villa Park side.

De Bruyne has been a key player for Man City over the years

Amid fitness problems in recent years, De Bruyne is no longer hitting the brilliant heights he once was, but he has still notched a respectable return of five goals and eight assists in all competitions this season.

The 33-year-old helped Pep Guardiola’s men win their fourth consecutive Premier League title by scoring four goals and assisting a further 10 in the top-flight just last season.

De Bruyne produced a stunning return of 10 goals and 28 assists when City won the treble to conclude a remarkable 2022/23 season.

While he is no longer at his best, the Belgium international should still have what it takes to help Villa reach the next level and obtain silverware next season.

His creative exploits in the final third could see him link up effectively with Ollie Watkins at Villa Park if the striker remains with Emery’s men this summer.
