Alan Shearer ‘astonished’ with Marcus Rashford return claim to Man United

Marcus Rashford has found his feet at Aston Villa, and Alan Shearer has hinted at the Manchester United loanee’s future.

The Villans signed the 27-year-old on loan from the Red Devils in the winter transfer window and has found regular game time in recent months.

Unai Emery has made Rashford a pivotal part of his plans in recent matches, and the English forward has mostly repaid the faith.

The winger was one of the best players at Villa Park as the hosts beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 in the Champions League on 15 April, but were knocked out of the competition on aggregate score.

Rashford career at Man United over after Ruben Amorim treatment

Rashford’s career at Man United may be over after how Ruben Amorim treated him, Shearer says.

The Newcastle icon would be astonished to see the 27-year-old return to Old Trafford after falling down the pecking order under the Portuguese manager.

Shearer feels the England international won’t go back to the Manchester club until Amorim is there, leaving his future uncertain.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football (18 April), the all-time Premier League goalscorer said: “I’d be astonished if he has a career at Man United. Not while Amorim’s there. He’s made it clear he doesn’t want him. Man United are in a mire in the Premier League, and yet he thinks getting him out of the football club is the best answer.

“So there’s no way he’s going back while Amorim is there.”

Aston Villa to push for permanent Rashford transfer this summer

Emery will arguably want Rashford to continue at the Lions next season after what he’s done during his short stint so far.

Ollie Watkins has seen his influence at Villa Park decline since the Man United loanee’s arrival, highlighting the trust the Spanish manager has in him.

While it may be hard for the Villans to convince the English winger to return next summer, Champions League qualification could potentially play a big part.

Villa were knocked out of the Champions League by PSG, but they still have a chance of qualifying for next season’s edition by finishing in the top five.

With the Premier League getting an extra slot for qualification to European football’s most prestigious competition, Emery will be confident.

If the Villans do qualify for the competition, they may have a chance of luring Rashford back to Villa Park.

After the departure of Jhon Duran in the winter transfer window, the Lions evidently needed to bolster their attack and Monchi pulled off some masterstrokes.

Apart from the Man United loanee, Marco Asensio was also signed on loan from PSG, and the former Real Madrid star has been impressive as well.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Birmingham club attempt to make the two forwards’ loans permanent next summer, but it remains to be seen whether that’ll happen.
