Aston Villa ‘face new Chelsea hurdle’ as update shared on Marcus Rashford future

Aston Villa will face serious competition to sign Marcus Rashford in the summer transfer window.

The on-loan Man United winger has impressed during his spell at Villa Park, with his work ethic being something that has wowed fans.

The England international has totally bought into Unai Emery’s methods of playing football, which often requires his wingers to put in a lot of work in terms of tracking back and defending.

Emery has the option to sign Rashford permanently if he wishes, with Villa boasting an option in their loan deal to sign him for £40million at the end of the season.

Rashford is still looking to capture the full form that fans know he is capable of from his time at Old Trafford, but whether he’s done enough at Villa Park to win over Emery will soon be clear.

Aston Villa will have to fight off other Premier League teams

Most Villa fans expected competition from abroad when it came to trying to sign Rashford on a full-time basis, but according to the Express (18 April), there’s also interest within the Premier League.

While Man United are not expected to try and keep Rashford after his time away, with his relationship with Ruben Amorim likely stretched too far, there could be a bid from Chelsea.

Raheem Sterling and João Felix are expected to be sold during the summer transfer window, while the decision regarding Jadon Sancho’s status remains unclear.

That could lead to Enzo Maresca needing to dip into the transfer window to sign a wide forward, and Rashford is someone who would tick that box.

With proven Premier League experience, a genuine goal threat, and lots of pace, the Blues might end up being an unexpected interested party.

Aston Villa also have competition abroad

There are also a handful of top European teams monitoring Rashford’s situation at the moment, with Bayern Munich recently emerging as an option due to Thomas Muller’s upcoming departure.

PSG have been able to witness what Rashford is capable of firsthand in recent weeks, and after some impressive performances there could be some turned heads in Paris.

Meanwhile Barcelona remain an option for the Man United star as the La Liga side were linked to signing him in January before Villa brought him in on loan.
