Arsenal may have just landed Unai Emery his new job amid Aston Villa exit talk

Arsenal could be the reason why Unai Emery leaves Aston Villa at the end of the season.

Aston Villa have made strides forward under Emery, although they crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after losing 4-5 on aggregate against PSG in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, 15 April.

The Birmingham-based club still have a chance to win a trophy this season, as they prepare to face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final on 26 April.

Villa could also qualify for the Champions League again, considering they are only a point off fifth place in the Premier League with six games left to play.

Emery could leave Aston Villa after Arsenal development

The only downside to Aston Villa’s progress under Emery is that bigger clubs are also increasingly aware of his tactical acumen.

Emery has already been mooted as an option to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, although they only hired the Portuguese manager in November.

While a move to Old Trafford does not seem realistic at this point, the same cannot be said about the 53-year-old returning to Spain, especially if a club like Real Madrid came calling.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Madrid come calling for Emery soon, particularly after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal on Wednesday, 16 April.

The reigning European champions bowed out of the elite competition after losing 1-5 on aggregate to the Gunners.

With Madrid also sitting four points behind Barcelona with seven games left to play in the La Liga title race, the Spanish giants are set for a disappointing end to the season, which could signal the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s spell as the Real Madrid boss.

As terrible as it sounds for Aston Villa, Emery would be an obvious choice to take the reins at the Santiago Bernabeu in that case, as he is already being linked with them.

Emery to swap Villa for Real Madrid

The truth is, Emery cannot be blamed if he swapped Aston Villa for Real Madrid.

The Spaniard would be competing for elite titles like the Champions League every season at Madrid, while the same is not the case at Villa.

Therefore, it may be in the NSWE’s best interests to draw up a list of potential replacements for the former Villarreal boss already.
