Wayne Rooney rages at ‘bad’ footage of Marcus Rashford incident in Aston Villa v PSG

Wayne Rooney was less than impressed with Marcus Rashford for his involvement in PSG’s opening goal against Aston Villa.

Aston Villa have it all to do in the second half against PSG, with the Parisians 2-1 up on the night, and 5-2 up on aggregate.

Youri Tielemans gave the Villans a slither of hope before the break, but two first-half goals from the French giants have left Unai Emery‘s side with a mountain to climb.

Both fullbacks have been on the score sheet for PSG, with Achraf Hakimi’s goal coming as a result of a series of errors.

Rashford called out after PSG goal

Villa had actually started the game well, and you could see that the home atmosphere was starting to unsettle the visitors in the early stages.

Emery’s side were relentless in their press, but a couple of errors led to the opening goal, with Rashford starting it.

Just as Villa were on the attack, the ball was played towards him, but a poor touch resulted in him being dispossessed, before PSG raced up the other end to take the lead, and Rooney called the Englishman out for his involvement.

Speaking via Amazon Prime (15 April, 8:52pm), he said: “They get themselves into some really good positions and that’s exactly where you want Marcus Rashford getting on the ball and he has a bad first touch and you lose the ball, but as a forward, you dont expect to receive the ball from there.”

Aston Villa edging closer to Champions League exit

Unless Villa can find three goals in the next 45 minutes, their Champions League campaign looks as though it will be coming to an abrupt end.

A defeat to PSG would not be something to be concerned about, but given the errors that have been made in the game, it may be seen more so of a disappointment and perhaps a missed opportunity to cause an upset.

An exit wouldn’t be the end of the world either, given their chance of securing European football in the Premier League, though it would ramp up the pressure for them to achieve that ahead of the final six league games.

It is tight in the race for Champions League qualification

An early goal could be pivotal in the second half if they are to overturn this 5-2 deficit against one of the favourites to win the Champions League.
