Rogers sends message to Marco Asensio after Aston Villa v Southampton

Aston Villa achieved their fourth consecutive Premier League win with a 3-0 victory over already-relegated Southampton.

However, it wasn’t always plain sailing for Unai Emery’s men in Hampshire, as Marco Asensio saw two penalties saved by Aaron Ramsdale.

Villa’s win over Southampton saw the West Midlands giants climb to fifth in the Premier League table, while a top-five spot would be enough to guarantee Champions League football once more.

But Emery’s side could be leapfrogged by Chelsea on Sunday if the London club can beat relegation candidates Ipswich.

Morgan Rogers responds after penalty misses v Southampton

After being denied from the penalty spot twice on Saturday afternoon, Asensio wrote on Instagram: “Sometimes these things can happen, the most important is to keep trying. Happy for another three points away. Thank you for the support, Villans.”

Morgan Rogers showed support for his teammate as he commented with a red heart emoji.

Meanwhile, Rogers assisted Donyell Malen’s goal as he notched his 15th goal contribution in the Premier League this term.

Villa will be determined to overturn PSG deficit

After earning their 15th win of the Premier League season at Southampton, Emery’s men must now turn their attention back to the Champions League.

Villa suffered a 3-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital on Wednesday despite taking the lead through Rogers.

The freshly crowned Ligue 1 Champions got the better of goalkeeper Emi Martinez on three occasions, with Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Nuno Mendes all getting themselves on the scoresheet.

Emery’s side now have a huge task on their hands in trying to overcome a two-goal deficit against the French league winners, but they will be determined to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

The atmosphere at Villa Park on Tuesday 15 April will be electric, though, which could prove enough to see Emery and Co get themselves over the line against Luis Enrique’s men.

Furthermore, with their victory over Southampton, Villa proved that they have not been downhearted by last week’s defeat in the French capital.
