Birmingham fan’s post about Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers goes viral

Morgan Rogers was the only Villa man on the scoresheet as his side fell to a 3-1 defeat against PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Villans now need at least three goals in the home leg next week if they are going to overcome their opponents on home turf.

Unai Emery’s men may have been on the wrong end of the result but a fourth Champions League goal for Rogers is certainly reflective of the season he is having.

Rogers is one player who has certainly flourished in Villa colours this season having played regularly across competitions, contributing plenty at the top of the pitch.

The 22-year-old’s impressive form this term earned him a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad and he delivered on the international stage.

Although his side lost the game against PSG, a goal from Rogers makes his side’s job just that bit smaller.

With the second leg at Villa Park, if the fans create a big atmosphere, it could work on Villa’s side and spur them on to give it a good go.

The Villans might be competing on the European stage, but that did not stop supporters of Birmingham City poking fun at their West Midlands rivals.

The Champions League X account posted a photo of Rogers and a Birmingham fan was quick to say: “This could be the most ‘auraless’ picture I have ever seen.”

The post has gone viral, racking up 2.4million views as well as 51,000 likes.

Rogers a star at Aston Villa

Birmingham fans may have got the laugh this time but Rogers will not be losing sleep as he prepares for another run-out in the Champions League while their rivals just gained promotion from League One.

Although he made just 11 Premier League appearances last term, Rogers has stepped up this season and made 30 appearances as well as regularly playing European football.

Rogers has shone for Aston Villa this season.

At such a young age, the future certainly looks bright for the attacking midfielder who will be keen to get on the scoresheet again in the home leg of his side’s tie with PSG.

The current scoreline is not in Villa’s favour but that does not mean that the game is over and if anyone can have an impact again, it is surely Rogers.

Even if the Champions League is a step too far this term, the Villans still have a top-five finish and the FA Cup to play for and we will no doubt see the ace shining in these pursuits too.
