NSWE to seal ‘astronomical’ rescue deal as PSR trouble looms at Aston Villa
NSWE could take a trick out of Chelsea’s playbook to avoid a PSR breach at Aston Villa.
Villa have made wonderful progress on the pitch in recent seasons as they look ahead to a UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie with PSG.
Unai Emery has transformed the Villans since he arrived in the West Midlands, and he will be keen to lift a trophy at Villa Park.
However, while there has been plenty of improvement on the footballing side of things, off-field issues and financial trouble has plagued Villa over the past few years, and they look to once again be at risk of a breach of the Premier League’s rules.

NSWE to sell stakes at Aston Villa
The Premier League recently announced that its Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) will be in place for one more season, which could cause a nightmare situation for Aston Villa.
Villa are above the loss threshold of £105million over the past three seasons. As a result, Villa are at risk of breaching PSR and are therefore exploring the sale of their women’s team [The Times].

2022 | £400,000 profit |
2023 | £119.6million loss |
2024 | £85.4million loss |
Chelsea recently sold their women’s team to the club’s parent company to avoid a PSR breach, a move yet to be approved by the Premier League as being of fair market value.
It isn’t yet clear whether Villa would sell to themselves or external investors. However, ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – can see the club going down a similar route as Chelsea.
“This could solve any financial fair play issues they might have,” King said.
“Chelsea sold the women’s team to the club’s parent company. Therefore, I could imagine a similar thing happening at Villa. Women’s football is being promoted.
“Some of the figures involved now are astronomical. Chelsea valued their women’s team at more than £150million. That obviously would square up the books.”

Villa need to avoid PSR breach
All of Villa’s hard work on the pitch could unravel if the club breaches PSR.
Therefore, NSWE need to ensure that Villa stay compliant as Emery looks to end a memorable season in the West Midlands on a high.
