Danny Murphy blown away by footage of ‘wonderful’ Aston Villa ace v Forest

Aston Villa came away with all three points against Nottingham Forest as Unai Emery’s men continued their hunt for a top-four finish.

Goals from Morgan Rogers and Donyell Malen within the first 15 minutes proved to be enough to give the Villans all three points against a strong Forest team.

However, Danny Murphy’s eye was caught by what happened in the build-up to a goal as he was full of praise for one man in claret and blue.

Aston Villa carried on their good form upon a return to domestic action and came into the game against Nottingham Forest unbeaten in six in all competitions.

With their opponents sitting third in the table and also in the fight for European football next season, this is a massive three points for Emery’s men.

The Villans now sit sixth in the table, level on points with Manchester City in fifth and one point away from Chelsea in fourth meaning another season of European football is on the cards as it stands.

It is tight at the top of the Premier League.

Rogers opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a great finish after getting on the end of a Youri Tielemans pass over the top.

It was the assist that left Murphy full of praise as he said on Match of the Day (6 April, 13:44): “That leaves Tielemans and Onana free this time with no pressure on. All the time in the world to get confident, take touches, get your head up. It’s a wonderful pass [from Tielemans], it’s not great defending. What a touch from Rogers.”

Emery to aim high with Aston Villa

Just how well Emery has done with Aston Villa over the past few seasons cannot be underestimated.

Not only has the boss got his team competing at high levels but he has shown the ability to get the best out of his squad throughout the season.

Although consistency may have dropped earlier in the campaign, the West Midlands outfit looks to be in fine form at the moment, building upon their momentum as they go.

There has been some debate about what it is that Villa should be aiming for this season with the Champions League and FA Cup still on the cards, as well as a European finish in the Premier League table.

You can understand the different arguments that come from different perspectives throughout the West Midlands but as it stands, there is no reason why Emery’s side can’t aim for the top.

There is plenty of football yet to be played and anything could still happen but with the team in winning form, you can imagine the boss will definitely be telling his side to aim high.
