NSWE ‘to sell stakes’ as Aston Villa risk PSR breach yet again

Aston Villa have made it no secret that they are against PSR in the Premier League.

NSWE have unsuccessfully attempted to raise the limit of losses in the past, and now face the nightmare of one more season of PSR.

Recent years have seen late sales of players such as Douglas Luiz, Moussa Diaby and Omari Kellyman, all to avoid being charged by the Premier League.

NSWE risk PSR breach again at Aston Villa

The Villans have recently posted a loss of £85.4million for the 2023-24 accounts, taking them above the loss threshold of £105m for the past three seasons.

Of course, there are deductibles within that through investment in infrastructure, youth and women’s teams, with no charges set by the Premier League.

All of this means that Villa are at risk of breaching PSR, according to The Times.

The newspaper reports that NSWE are considering selling stakes in Aston Villa’s women’s team to help comply with the financial rules in the Premier League.

This could help Villa stay compliant without last-gasp transfer activity again.

Aston Villa success is critical in Premier League

Thankfully, for NSWE, they have Unai Emery in charge and working wonders on the pitch.

Aston Villa are charging towards another top-five finish and Champions League football for next season, as they prepare for a huge quarter-final in the same competition against Paris Saint-Germain.

Villa need less financial restriction to get back into the Champions League.

That added windfall and exposure are huge for the Midlands club, but they also need to be wary of new UEFA regulations, alongside PSR, after the latest accounts.

NSWE have also backed Manchester City in their recent attack on the Premier League surrounding APT regulations, so all is not well in the best league in the world.

A huge few months are ahead at Aston Villa, as Emery looks to bring silverware back to Villa Park and NSWE try to stay above water over PSR regulations.
