Real Madrid star sends message to Marco Asensio after Aston Villa win v Brighton

Marco Asensio continued his fine run of form for Aston Villa as they earned a 3-0 victory over Brighton on Thursday.

Villa hit the ground running upon returning from the international break, firing three goals past Brighton at the Amex Stadium on 2 April.

Asensio, though, was restricted to just 25 minutes of playing time as he started the game on the bench, but emerged as the standout performer for the visitors, scoring and assisting a goal each.

The Paris Saint-Germain loanee, thus, took his goals tally for Aston Villa to eight in 10 games across all competitions.

Lucas Vasquez sends message to Asensio

Asensio later took to social media to express his delight at having played a part in a “perfect night” for Aston Villa, while also thanking the fans for their support.

Teammates Youri Tielemans, Marcus Rashford, Emiliano Martinez and Morgan Rogers were all quick to tip their hat to the PSG loanee.

Meanwhile, Lucas Vasquez also sent a message to the 29-year-old in the wake of his goalscoring performance against Brighton.

“On fire”, the Real Madrid star wrote (2 April) along with a fire emoji.

Asensio and Vasquez know each other closely, having played 183 games together for Spain and Real Madrid.

Aston Villa must buy Asensio from PSG

Asensio has proved to be a shrewd signing by Aston Villa since arriving on loan from PSG in the winter transfer window.

The Spain international has three goals and an assist in five Premier League appearances, while he has scored in both of his Champions League matches for the Villans so far.

There is no doubt that the attacker has boosted the Birmingham-based club’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League and going far in the Champions League this season.

Therefore, there is a case to be made about Aston Villa making Asensio’s loan from PSG permanent in the summer.

While they have an option to buy Rashford from Manchester United for £40million, they do not have a similar clause in their agreement with PSG for Asensio.

However, PSG could sell Asensio for as little as £12.5m, making it a no-brainer for Monchi and Unai Emery.
