Chris Sutton names player Aston Villa have who is best in world

Emi Martinez has continued to wow fans and pundits alike with his high level of performance and consistency.

The 32-year-old has proven to be an unbelievable signing for the Midlands giants with his performances being invaluable in helping the club grow and develop.

The Villans paid just £20million for the Argentina international when they signed him from Arsenal in 2020, and he has certainly proven any doubters wrong about his quality as a goalkeeper.

Martinez has enjoyed individual success during his time with Villa, having won the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper twice in the past three years.

However, he’s now looking to kick on to help the team enjoy success as Unai Emery’s men remain in the Champions League this season.

Emi Martinez is the ‘best in the world’

It isn’t just the Villa faithful who have loved watching Martinez play, as Chris Sutton has now heaped praise on him when talking to BBC Sport (29 March).

Sutton said: “His keepie-uppie antics, external to wind up Brazil while playing for Argentina this week, were another reminder of why he is the best goalkeeper in the world.

“Anyone who can produce moments like that in a game of that magnitude deserves all the accolades you can get.”

Martinez put together more impressive performances on international duty for Argentina as they officially qualified for the World Cup.

Aston Villa must add quality to match Emi Martinez

Martinez being one of the best goalkeepers in the world has made Villa an infinitely stronger team, but now the club are working hard to sign players who can match that standard across the board.

Emery has slowly been building a high-quality squad that is capable of competing on all fronts, and his signings in the January transfer window showcased that.

Marcus Rashford was brought in on loan as the Villans opted to give him an opportunity to prove himself, and they do have the option of buying him for £40million at the end of the season.

Former Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor has praised Rashford for “doing extra with local coaches” during his time at Villa Park, as he hinted that they should consider signing him permanently.

With Martinez between the sticks and – hopefully – more high-profile additions this summer, the future is extremely bright for the Villans.
