Aston Villa ‘concede defeat’ in summer transfer investment as offers entertained

Aston Villa already have an eye on the summer transfer window despite there being nine more games left to play in the Premier League.

There is still a lot to be excited about for Aston Villa fans as Unai Emery’s side push for a top-four finish again while also vying for a semi-final berth in the UEFA Champions League.

However, as is often the case, attention has turned to matters off the pitch during the ongoing international break, with summer transfers taking the centre stage.

While Emery focuses on Villa’s targets on the pitch, there is no doubt that Monchi will be plotting the club’s summer transfer plans already.

Aston Villa open to offers for Enzo Barrenechea

While Aston Villa are certain to make new additions to their squad as they continue to make strides forward under Emery, some exits are also inevitable.

Enzo Barrenechea has emerged as an early candidate to be sold by the Birmingham-based club despite only joining them last summer.

Villa acquired Barrenechea from Juventus for an initial sum of £6.7million as part of the deal that saw Douglas Luiz head in the other direction.

However, the Premier League immediately sent him out on loan to Valencia.

The 23-year-old has since established himself as an important player for the Spanish outfit, bagging one goal and two assists in 21 La Liga appearances on top of his defensive midfield duties.

This has led to talk about Valencia making an effort to make Barrenechea’s loan move permanent, although they do not have such an option included in their deal.

They will have the chance to negotiate a transfer, though, as Aston Villa are willing to listen to offers for the Argentinian, according to Uriel Iugt.

The South American journalist reported via his X handle on Tuesday (25 March) that Valencia will still find it difficult to negotiate a deal for Barrenechea, who is also wanted by other clubs.

Villa clearly don’t rate Barrenechea

At 23 years of age, Barrenechea has displayed a lot of potential.

It is worth noting that the midfielder earned a call-up to the Argentina national team in November after hitting the ground running at Valencia, although he is yet to play for them.

However, Aston Villa’s willingness to listen to offers for him shows that they clearly do not rate him.

The fact that they are prepared to sell him without giving him a chance to impress is telling, and it appears they have already given up on this summer transfer investment.

Selling Barrenechea is a decision Villa may well end up regretting in the future.
