Man United legend rages over what he’s heard about Marcus Rashford – ‘Crazy’

Manchester United icon Bryan Robson was infuriated after what he heard about Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa.

Rashford managed to seal a temporary exit from the rut at Manchester United as he joined Aston Villa on winter deadline day.

The Englishman has since managed to bring his career back on track, excelling under Unai Emery as Villa continue their journey in three competitions – Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FA Cup.

Robson heavily critiqued Rashford for his approach of ‘starting to enjoy football’ after the loan move.

Robson’s public dressing down of Rashford

Under Ruben Amorim, Rashford cut a frustrated figure as he was left out of the squad or restricted to the bench. After his move to the Villa Park, the Englishman has had a new spring in his step and is seen smiling around.

His performances have drastically improved as well, as he has four assists in nine games for the Villains. With Villa, the 27-year-old is operating at a higher level of productivity, playing in the Champions League as opposed to United who are in the UEFA Europa League.

Rashford is now an important part of the Villa attack alongside Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and Marco Asensio. Robson speaking to Express Sport, fumed at what pundits said about Rashford’s move.

He said: “Well, I haven’t come out publicly and said anything, but the TV pundits drive me crazy. I’m talking about ex-players saying that as soon as he went to Villa, he was enjoying his football again.

“Hold on a minute. You are so fortunate to be a football player. If I’m at Man United, I’m enjoying my football, or I should be enjoying my football, and I’m going to work hard to try and make the team successful.

“So when you go to Villa, it’s no different from playing for Man United. You try and enjoy your game and do the best you can. So there’s no excuses.”

Rashford to join Aston Villa permanently?

The 27-year-old joined Emery’s side on loan but Villa do have an option to make the move permanent for £40 million. Given the Englishman’s progress, the West Midlands side are expected to trigger the buy clause.

Villa seem to be a far better suit for Rashford than his boyhood club at this stage of the career. Under Emery, Villa have become a side that regularly knocks on the doors of European football and possesses the ability to go deep in cup competitions.

If the Villains manage to secure European football for next season, Rashford will not mind joining Villa permanently. However, if Rashford returns to Old Trafford, he is unlikely to feature for Amorim’s side.
