Ben Foster shares ‘heartbroken’ admission amid Aston Villa development

Aston Villa have had an up and down season but things could finally be on the up for Unai Emery.

The Spaniard has been dealt a difficult hand with injuries throughout the season but finally appears to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Recent wins against Cardiff City, Club Brugge and Brentford have contributed to a positive atmosphere around Villa Park.

With that being said, former England international Ben Foster has revealed his reason for upset if the Villans continue their positive form until the end of the season.

Foster to be heartbroken if Aston Villa win FA Cup

It is fair to say that there is an element of optimism in B6 right now after being drawn to face Preston North End in the FA Cup quarter final.

This leaves Emery and his side just one win against Championship opposition away from securing a place at Wembley for the first time in five years.

Given the level of the sides that have been already knocked out of the competition, it is arguably the best chance Villa have had in many years to win some silverware.

The Villa Park faithful have been dreaming of this prospect for tens of years but ex-Manchester United keeper Foster is deadset against the idea.

Speaking on the Football Fill-In (11 March), the former Birmingham City man has related the Villans’ success back to his spell at St Andrews.

He said: “I won’t enjoy it, Birmingham have still got the bragging rights over being the last team to win a major trophy, the League Cup in 2011 against Arsenal.

“I know if Villa go and win that, a lot of Blues fans I know are going to be absolutely gutted, absolutely heartbroken.”

The second city rivals have never been as far apart as they are right now.

Emery has Villa fighting in the Champions League and for a top four spot in the Premier League in consecutive seasons.

On the flip side, Blues sit in the third tier and although promotion is a guarantee at this stage, that is what is expected after record levels of spending.

Regardless of league position, one thing that the Small Heath faithful have over the B6 club is the League Cup and winning silverware more recently.

It is fair to say that Villa will be keen to rid that hoo doo but ultimately, the thoughts of Birmingham and their 14 year old success won’t bother those in claret and blue.
