Alan Shearer was impressed with the defensive effort of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side as they beat Brentford 1-0 in the Premier League.

The Birmingham outfit played host to the Bees at Villa Park on Saturday, 8 March, and picked up a much-needed three points.

With that win, they are now in 8th place with 45 points to their name.

Axel Disasi hailed by Alan Shearer as he makes Team of the Week

Emery opted to start Axel Disasi at right-back and he certainly did not let his manager down.

Keeping the likes of Kevin Schade, Yoanne Wissa and even Bryan Mbuemo on occasion, was not going to be easy.

However, he performed his role exceptionally and vindicated the Spaniard’s decision to select him.

In his Premier League Team of the Week, Shearer put him in at centre-back, surprisingly, with Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina being named as the right-back.

He wrote: “Brilliant performance. A commanding presence at the back as he kept Bryan Mbeumo and co quiet.”

Thomas Frank’s men found no way past the Aston Villa full-back

Disasi had an incredible and stats also prove how good he was on the defensive end of things for Aston Villa.

He made five clearances all game, per Sofascore, which is impressive for a full-back.

Along with that, the Chelsea-owned defender managed to make three tackles and two interceptions.

He even put his body on the line and blocked a shot which was pretty impressive as he seemed to get better each time he was called into action.
