Marcus Rashford latest: David Ornstein shares Aston Villa permanent deal update

David Ornstein has issued an update regarding the future of Marcus Rashford following his loan move to Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

Since the arrival of Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, Rashford either found himself relegated to the bench or completely omitted from the match day squad.

The 27-year-old attacker featured just six times under Amorim, netting three goals but the former Sporting manager decided to ignore Rashford for selection despite him training on a high level every week.

This prompted the news of a possible exit and finally, the Englishman got his exit, albeit temporarily, as he joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

Aston Villa permanent deal for Rashford discussed

The 27-year-old instantly hit the ground running at Villa Park, playing an important role in the attack. Under Unai Emery, Rashford has set up three goals in seven games and has come agonisingly close to scoring his first goal for the West Midlands side.

Rashford has been a constant threat in the attack and has been highly effective alongside another January loan signing, Marco Asensio. Following a positive start to life at Villa Park, murmurs were doing the rounds of the Claret and Blue signing the Manchester United attacker permanently.

The Athletic’s Ornstein has issued an update regarding Rashford’s future. When asked whether Rashford will go to Villa on a permanent deal, he said that neither team has decided yet.

He told: “Neither side will have decided that so soon and it wasn’t something agreed at the time of the move, otherwise I presume they would have included an obligation to buy”

Villa cruising to Champions League quarterfinals

Villa under Emery have become a team that are consistently knocking on the doors of European football and are in fact taking strides to go deep in the European competitions.

The Villans are on course to go in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League after defeating Club Brugge 3-1 in Belgium in the first leg of the round of 16 fixture.

Goals from Leon Bailey and Asensio and an own goal from Brandon Mechele were enough to give the Villians a victory. Under Emery, the West Midlands side are becoming a force to reckon with as they are also in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, facing Preston North End later in March.

Although their Premier League campaign has faltered a bit as they sit 10th in the league table, they are just two points away from the top six. Their robust form and performance is no surprise to Aston Villa captain John McGinn, who insisted that they are contenders for the Champions League and have the opportunity to do something special ahead of their Club Brugge clash.

Only time will tell whether the former Villarreal manager can take his side all the way to the Champions League title.
