Rangers next manager: Steven Gerrard odds slashed amid huge Ibrox news
Aston Villa’s former manager Steven Gerrard is increasingly likely to return to British football with Rangers.
The 44-year-old endured a miserable spell at Villa Park as the Premier League proved too much for the ex-Liverpool star after his success with the Glasgow outfit.
In his time with the Villans, Gerrard won just 13 of his 40 matches in the dugout and was sacked in October 2022.
However, he may make a sensational return to Ibrox after a new development at the Scottish club.

Steven Gerrard could be set to return to Rangers
Gerrard was appointed at Villa after winning the Scottish Premiership with the Gers in the 2020/21 season but the Govan outfit have struggled since his departure.
However, their hardship may be set to end after a deal for the enterprise arm of the San Francisco 49ers NFL franchise was agreed in principle.
With due diligence and legal paperwork to be completed, the takeover looks close to competition and that could benefit the former Villa man.
Odds on Gerrard taking over from interim manager Barry Ferguson have been slashed after the development.
The former England midfielder is 15/8 with Bet 365 to takeover in Auchenhowie after the news emerged, a significant drop from the 7/1 that he was listed at earlier this week.

Rangers return will not guarantee success for Gerrard
A return to the club where he started his managerial career will not guarantee success for the ex-Villa man despite his previous time in Govan.
After winning the league with the Gers, Gerrard has struggled to replicate that impact with the Villans and Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq.
Gerrard roles (league) | Played | Wins | Draws | Losses | Points per game |
Rangers | 107 | 76 | 21 | 10 | 2.33 |
Aston Villa | 38 | 12 | 8 | 18 | 1.16 |
Al-Ettifaq | 51 | 17 | 16 | 18 | 1.31 |
His struggles suggest that he would not walk back into the Scottish league and enjoy immediate success and would need a significant bounce back after two setbacks.
The playing squad at Rangers is nowhere near the side that he built into champions, it is in need of major upheaval with Celtic miles ahead in the league by a margin of 16 points.
The takeover is positive but it will not solve the issues with the quality of the team or all of their financial problems, Gerrard would have serious work to do if he returned.
