Marcus Rashford called ‘selfish’ on MOTD as Aston Villa v Chelsea footage shown

Aston Villa star Marcus Rashford has been branded as “selfish” despite his contributions in the 2-1 win over Chelsea.

The Manchester United loanee was in devastating form after Unai Emery brought him off of the bench in the 46th minute.

The 27-year-old was instrumental in the Villans’ comeback on 22 February as he assisted both of Marco Asensio‘s goals.

The stunning performance will have the Villa Park faithful desperate to see more of the England international as the season edges to a close.

Aston Villa finally see Rashford impact

Marcus Rashford has failed to notch a goal contribution in his first three matches for the Villa Park outfit but he had shown glimpses on his talent against Liverpool (19 February).

However, he proved that he can be a game-changer with a stunning performance to down Enzo Maresca’s side that left former Reds star Danny Murphy astounded.

Speaking on Match of the Day (22 February, 22:55 pm), he said: “He looked sharp, his fitness looks good, he looked selfish in terms of his desire to get into good places and score goals.

“Tries to drive at people, doesn’t worry about making a mistake, exactly the Marcus Rashford we like to see and watch, when he is at his best.”

Rashford can kick on at Aston Villa

Sporting director Monchi deserves credit for securing loan deals for Rashford and Asensio in the winter transfer window, they look like a masterstroke after the Chelsea result.

The duo were immense against the Blues and can be the difference as Villa attempt to qualify for the Champions League for a successive season.

The Three Lions star arrived in B6 with a chip on his shoulder after the treatment he received under new Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim and that is beginning to pay off for Villa.

The England ace looks to be playing with freedom and can have a devastating effect down the wings for Emery’s side as they chase continental qualification and unlikely glory in this year’s competition.

Now that he has gotten his first contributions, the hope will be that this is just the start and the loanee can kick on and make a real impact in his spell in the Midlands.

If he does, he may find himself as a permanent Villa player with the £40 million clause in his loan deal looking like a bargain at the moment if he can continue in this vein of form.
