Aston Villa fans ‘in total shock’ by what Troy Deeney did after Chelsea moment

Aston Villa fans were surprised to see what Troy Deeney did when Marco Asensio scored the winner against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Spaniard bagged a brace after being set up twice by Marcus Rashford to come back from 1-0 down to secure three points against Enzo Maresca’s side.

It is fair to say that Unai Emery’s side were vastly improved in the second half and arguably deserved to win as the PSG loanee made it 2-1 at Villa Park.

This prompted a reaction from devout Birmingham City fan Deeney which has certainly left Villa supporters surprised.

Deeney celebrates Aston Villa goal v Chelsea

It is fair to say that the former Watford star isn’t well-liked in B6 for his love for Blues and his hatred for anything claret and blue.

This has made it all the more frustrating when he has netted six goals in his five appearances against the Villans while rubbing fans’ noses in it.

As a result, you would expect the pundit to react negatively when Villa do well or score in a game which he is covering.

That wasn’t the case against Chelsea as the former Birmingham striker was clearly overjoyed when Asensio netted a late winner against the West Londoners.

The 36-year-old was receiving an update of the goal live on talkSPORT (22 February) and in reaction he pumped his hands above his head while wearing a beaming smile.

This was done to get a reaction out of his co-host and Chelsea fan, Rory Jennings who was getting visibly frustrated as his side threw the game away.

Regardless of this, it is still a shock and quite bizarre to see Deeney so happy about Villa scoring given how negative he typically is about his club’s biggest rivals.

Aston Villa fans left baffled by Deeney celebrations

The scenes inside Villa Park were memorable as Asesnio managed to rattle an effort through Filip Jorgensen who has since faced his fair share of critics.

As the B6 faithful celebrated a much-needed Premier League win, the away section flooded out as frustration was voiced towards Maresca and his players.

The influence of Rashford became too much for Chelsea to handle which ultimately changed the game in the Villans’ favour.

Regardless of this, supporters would still never expect to see Deeney be so excited about Villa taking the lead in a game even if it was done to wind up Jennings.

It would certainly be interesting to know if the ex-Watford man regrets these actions and what the Birmingham fans make of their hero.
