Aston Villa v Chelsea injury update: Huge Matty Cash news emerges

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash has been out with a muscular injury since January, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that this is likely a Grade 2 setback for the right-back, who missed the game against Liverpool on 19 February.

His last appearance for the Villans came at the end of January when his side beat Celtic 4-2 in the Champions League.

Matty Cash unlikely to start against Chelsea

Emery’s side now play host to Chelsea at Villa Park on Sunday, 22 February, and the Spaniard is unlikely to have Cash to call on to start the game.

While the Poland international has not been ruled out, it’s expected to take him a couple of games off the bench to get back into a rhythm.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News: “From what I’ve gathered, he has a muscular injury.

Given he’s been out since the end of January, this is likely a Grade 2 out of 4 injury.

Based on what Emery’s said, I do not see him being ready to start over the weekend either and he’ll probably need a couple of bounce games off the bench before he’s ready.

While he could play some role in the game against Enzo Maresca’s side, it seems too early for him to start in it.

Matty Cash has been vital for Aston Villa this season

Emery will be hoping that he’s back for the Champions League knockout stages and has returned to 100 per cent by then.

A top-five finish also seems to be the target in the Premier League and with the right-back in the side, the team’s chances of achieving their goals certainly increase

Dr Brar expects the Villa Park outfit to take it easy initially with him and that’s perhaps the best thing to do as they do not want him to suffer a re-injury as that will be detrimental for the remaining months of the season.
