Morgan Rogers sends angry message to Alex Palmer after Aston Villa v Ipswich

Morgan Rogers was clearly unhappy with goalkeeper Alex Palmer as Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw by Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Unai Emery was forced to wait until the 69th minute for his side’s only goal of the afternoon, with Ollie Watkins missing several chances before finally hitting the back of the net.

The Tractor Boys took a shock lead at Villa Park on 15 February, having gone down to 10 men in the first half thanks to Axel Tuanzebe, as Liam Delap scored the opener.

Marcus Rashford, however, had an instant impact, with his free-kick rocketing off the crossbar and into Watkins’ path, but the Villans were forced to settle for a single point in a frustrating home clash.

While Villa’s lack of clinical finishing will be somewhat of a concern, many focused on the incredible Premier League debut from Alex Palmer following his winter move from West Brom.

The 28-year-old made six saves during his first league outing for Ipswich, denying Emery’s star-studded attacking lineup on multiple occasions, and showing his love for the fans on social media afterwards.

Reacting via Palmer’s Instagram post [15 February], Rogers simply replied with an angry face emoji, to which the shot-stopper replied with a laughing face and handshake emoji.

Rogers has every right to be disappointed with his performances, and the displays of his teammates, as Villa were forced to settle for a single point at home against a 10-man relegation-threatened team.

Unai Emery looking at bigger picture this season

With the Champions League and FA Cup to worry about this season, it is no surprise to see Villa fall to ninth in the Premier League after rising above Tottenham to fourth last term.

Emery’s side have the chance to make history in Europe right now, having advanced automatically to the knockout stages of the Champions League, also beating Spurs to the FA Cup fifth round.

The Villans have the potential for so much success this season, even with a spot in the top-four Premier League highly unlikely now, so the 1-1 draw against Ipswich should not be slammed too harshly.
