John McGinn injury update emerges ahead of Aston Villa v Ipswich Town
Aston Villa attacking midfielder John McGinn has a slim chance of re-injury in his hamstring, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that while the Scotland international may be at or near 100 per cent in terms of his fitness, that small possibility does exist.
However, it is a positive that the 30-year-old played the 90 minutes against Wolves and Tottenham in February and is expected to be able to play the full game against Ipswich Town on Saturday, 15 February.
John McGinn did not require surgery on his injured hamstring
Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News: “He was ruled out with a Grade 2 hamstring injury in January, based on the timeline of his return.
“He did not need surgery and seemed to be back in training shortly.
“Since then, he has played regularly and also had back-to-back games where he’s played 90 minutes and he will be fine playing full matches going forward.
“While there are slim re-injury chances, I reckon he’s close to if not already back at 100 per cent.“
Had he needed surgery, McGinn certainly would have been out for a lot longer than he was.
On 4 January, he played 19 minutes and then returned on 26 January to play 17 minutes in the 1-1 draw against West Ham.
John McGinn is a huge asset for Unai Emery and Aston Villa
McGinn has emerged as a pivotal figure for both Unai Emery and Villa due to his multifaceted contributions on and off the pitch.
Under the Spaniard’s guidance, he has revitalised his career, transitioning from a player who feared losing his place to becoming the team’s talisman.
His versatility allows him to play in multiple midfield roles, providing the manager with tactical flexibility.
The former Hibs attacking midfielder’s commitment, work ethic and leadership qualities are often cited by Emery as exemplary, setting the tone for the squad’s overall performance.
His pressing, energy, and ability to drive the team forward have been instrumental in Villa’s transformation from relegation candidates to European contenders.
McGinn’s on-field performances have directly correlated with Villa’s success, with his goals, assists, and dynamic play being key in significant matches.

This mutual respect and the Scotsman’s embodiment of Emery’s demanding standards make him indispensable and Villa fans will be delighted to have him on board.
