Aston Villa fume as Premier League reject request amid Liverpool update
Aston Villa are set to undergo a busy period of fixtures with Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League commitments.
The Villans have had a largely positive season to this point despite sitting eighth behind Bournemouth in the league table.
This has seen Unai Emery guide his side to the last 16 of the Champions League while also securing a fifth-round place in the FA Cup after beating Tottenham at Villa Park.
As positive as this is, it could ultimately prove to be the B6 club’s downfall this season as the Premier League refuse to help.
Premier League reject Aston Villa v Liverpool request
The Villans are looking ahead to a clash against Ipswich Town on Saturday (15 February), kicking off a busy period in the West Midlands.
This comes after their home fixture against Liverpool was moved to 19 February due to the Reds’ upcoming League Cup final against Newcastle United.
Villa asked the league organisers if this game could be moved as this schedule means they will play five times in just 14 days.
Despite having just one Premier League fixture in March, John Percy reported via X on 14 February that this request has been denied which has left the B6 hierarchy frustrated.
Aston Villa fume after Premier League denial
Although this news doesn’t come as a surprise, there are true grounds for the Villans to share their discontent over their upcoming schedule.
Given that there is currently just one game noted to take place in March at the time of writing, there is no reason why this clash against Liverpool must be played so quickly.
Considering all the injury concerns and poor player welfare that has been seen, the Premier League have missed a chance to look out for their players and make the right choice.
This will leave Emery’s squad particularly light especially while they are without first-choice defenders Matty Cash, Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings due to injury concerns.
This busy schedule is only going to make fitness worries worse for Emery which will come as a blow with FA Cup and Champions League commitments coming up quickly.
