Aston Villa and Man United in nightmare as Premier League make new PSR decision

Aston Villa have seen an upturn in their fortunes of late and Unai Emery’s side are enjoying competing in the Champions League this season.

However, it will be key for the Villans to create a sustainable future in the West Midlands to build upon the success so far.

Villa did make several new transfer additions to their squad during the winter window but the summer months could be a crucial time to truly kick on.

Premier League make controversial PSR decision

For clubs looking to strengthen themselves in the Premier League now, owners have to keep their minds on PSR restrictions to avoid risking any points deductions that could work against them.

Although there were calls to have PSR restrictions dropped or changed, according to The Times (13 February), the current rules are set to remain in place for next season too.

This means that the maximum loss a Premier League club can make is £105million over three seasons while spending on infrastructure, youth and women’s football is exempt from this.

The Daily Mail says Aston Villa are one of the sides that have pushed for the idea of changing the loss threshold to £135million over the space of three years to try and make it more sustainable, with the latest news a “nightmare” for the Lions and Manchester United.

Aston Villa looking for next step in progression

Although Villa have enjoyed competing in the Champions League this term, it has been a difficult season to manage at times with an increased number of games causing fixture congestion.

Therefore, the Villans will be eager to expand their current squad to try and ensure they have the players available to rotate their squad and handle the number of games they have to face as they look to build upon their current progress.

Therefore, you can understand why clubs are eager to see changes to the PSR restrictions to try and allow them to be more flexible with the money they are generating, in order to support their ambitions on the pitch in the summer transfer window.

Villa struck a good deal to cash in on Jhon Duran in the winter transfer window and after the news about sticking to the current restrictions, they will no doubt be feeling pleased about the boost of £64million from that transfer.
