Aston Villa ‘plan summer raid’ of Villareal after winter failures

Aston Villa are ready to make a summer approach to sign Villareal duo Alex Baena and Juan Foyth after failed attempts in the winter, according to TBR.

The news outlet reported (6 February) that Villa are set to reignite their interest in signing Baena and Foyth, with unsuccessful attempts to conclude a deal in the past window.

Unai Emery’s side were believed to have held talks with Foyth [TBR] but any move in the January window failed to materialise.

Villareal were reluctant to sanction their exits recently but Villa are set to have another go at it when the summer window approaches.

Aston Villa planning for summer transfers

While the main focus for Villa has to be Champions League qualification currently, officials must have one eye on any potential business in the summer.

Of course, their ability to achieve that goal could alter those summer plans and should they fail to qualify, previous targets may not be as keen to make the switch.

Foyth and Baena would both be shrewd pickups from the Villans with Emery evidently looking to raid his former club for their best talent in a bid to bolster his own squad.

As it stands, Villa sit six points outside of the Champions League spots but with plenty of football still to be played, they have every chance to achieve their end goal which would put them in a strong position heading into the summer.
