Morgan Rogers sends five-word message as Jhon Duran Aston Villa exit confirmed

Morgan Rogers has admitted that he is going to miss Jhon Duran after the striker swapped Aston Villa for Al-Nassr.

The Colombia international joined the Saudi Pro League giants from the Birmingham-based club for a deal worth £71million on Friday, 31 January [BBC].

Rogers is among those who have reacted to the news, taking to his personal Instagram account to bid adieu to the 21-year-old.

“Gonna miss you my brother”, the Villa star wrote along with three heart emojis (31 January).

Duran later reposted the story on his own profile, writing “my bro” in response.

Aston Villa make £53m profit on Jhon Duran

Aston Villa splurged £18m to acquire Duran’s services from Major League Soccer outfit Chicago Fire in January 2023.

Spending such a sum on a teenager playing in the United States would have certainly raised eyebrows at the time.

However, the transfer has proved fruitful for Unai Emery’s side after they sold the striker to Al-Nassr for a deal worth up to £71m just two years after signing him.

Duran has left Villa Park after scoring 20 goals in 78 appearances across all competitions.

His winning goal in Villa’s 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League in October is one of his standout contributions, while he also netted in their 2-1 win against Manchester City in the Premier League in December.

Duran enjoys a special bond with Rogers as the pair registered four joint goal contributions during their time together for the Villans.

The Colombian has not enjoyed such a partnership with any other player in his career, but will now be hopeful of striking one with Cristiano Ronaldo in Riyadh.

In other Aston Villa news, the Birmingham outfit have opened talks over signing Marcus Rashford at Emery’s request.
