Don Goodman reacts to ‘Nightmare’ he saw in first-half of Aston Villa v Wolves
Don Goodman has lauded Aston Villa ace Jacob Ramsey for being a “defender’s nightmare” in their Premier League defeat against Wolves on Saturday.
The midfielder was making a break from the halfway line in the opening minutes of the game with the ball seeming as if it was stuck to his feet before being fouled by Matt Doherty.
In the end, the Villans were defeated by Vitor Pereira’s men who left the Molineux as 2-0 victors.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Main Event (1 February), Goodman shared his thoughts on Ramsey’s performance.
“When you have players like this, it’s a defender’s nightmare, close control, dribblers, ball carriers, they’re quick, draw challenges, doesn’t half make like difficult for defenders,” he said.
Aston Villa should have done better against Wolves
Since the start of the 2024/25 season, Aston Villa have been in fairly decent form as they’ve beaten teams such as Bayern Munich in the Champions League and currently sit eighth in the top-flight table, just four points adrift of the top four spots.
While the likes of Jhon Duran may have exited Villa Park in the winter transfer window, that still doesn’t excuse the fact that they put in a below-par performance against their relegation-threatened rivals.
Ollie Watkins was forced off at half-time due to injury which left the Villans in something of a pickle.

New arrival Donyell Malen made his debut on Saturday and brought an extra element to the team but it still feels like the other members of the team could have performed to a better standard.
At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess where Unai Emery’s men are going to finish the season but if they repeat their performance against Wolves against any other teams in the top flight this season, things could turn sour rather quickly.
