Aston Villa ‘seal big-money clause’ in Jhon Duran exit deal
Aston Villa could profit further from Jhon Duran’s move to Al-Nassr in the years to come.
As confirmed via Aston Villa’s official website on Friday (31 January), Duran has completed his move to Al-Nassr, with Simon Jordan having his say on the transfer.
According to Fabrizio Romano via X (31 January), the deal is worth £64million plus add-ons, with Duran expected to have signed a very lucrative contract.
And ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has speculated that the West Midlands-based outfit have also agreed a sell-on clause in the deal.
“I think Duran’s main problem has been his behaviour off the pitch,” King said.
“He’s been forever moaning about not playing regularly, a problem with his, a problem with that. He only recently signed a new contract, and it seems as though his loyalty to Villa wasn’t 100 per cent.
“I don’t think Villa will have a buy-back clause. However, I imagine they will have a sell-on clause, which means that if he does move on from Al-Nassr, Villa will get a percentage of that sale.”
Aston Villa agree sell-on clause in Jhon Duran exit deal?
Duran is a very talented player and is still only 21 years old. Therefore, some supporters might be surprised that he is moving to Saudi Arabia already, especially since he only recently signed a new deal at Villa Park.
However, with tension mooted between himself and Ollie Watkins, it only felt like a matter of time before one of them moved on, and the amount of money on offer from Al-Nassr likely proved too hard to resist for Duran.

Therefore, if Villa were forced to let him go, this was likely the best possible outcome as Duran now heads to a club who aren’t rivals with Villa, and for big money too.
And if a sell-on clause is included, that is simply a bonus.
