Aston Villa open Rashford talks as Unai Emery twist emerges – David Ornstein
Aston Villa have opened talks to sign Marcus Rashford at the request of Unai Emery, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist reported via his X account [31 January] that, while the player’s preference is Barcelona or staying at Manchester United, Villa are interested in his signature.
It is understood that Rashford would need convincing for a move to Villa Park to become a reality, though any potential transfer to the Nou Camp is highly unlikely due to Financial Fair Play [Fabrizio Romano].
Aston Villa to secure last-gasp Marcus Rashford deal?
With the Villans competing in the Premier League and Champions League, Emery is clearly looking to add more experience to his ranks, this time in the shape and form of Rashford.
Donyell Malen has already arrived at Villa Park, but with Jhon Duran set to leave for Saudi Arabia, Emery will need another attacking force in the squad before the transfer window slams shut.
Supporters have every right to be wary of their club signing Rashford, who has been totally out of form for the past couple of seasons, but there is a talented forward waiting to rediscover his previous prowess.
The 27-year-old has 138 goals in 426 appearances for the Red Devils, even boasting 60 caps for the England national team, so it would certainly be a move which improves the current squad.

Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers are now the Villan’s main goalscorers, but with the former having a subpar campaign by his standards and the latter mainly supplying the goals, Rashford’s presence could be key.
It would be sad to see the England star remain at Old Trafford at the end of the season, with his story surely turning sour with his boyhood club, but six months away at Villa Park could be good for all parties.
