Neil Lennon stunned by ‘Bizarre’ incident in Aston Villa v Celtic

Neil Lennon was left stunned by Celtic’s “bizarre” defending after Jacob Ramsey hit the post for Aston Villa during the first half of their 4-2 Champions League win against Celtic.

The Villans got off to a strong start after going 2-0 up after five minutes through Morgan Rogers’ double and went close to scoring again when Ramsey had a shot that hit the post, bouncing to Kasper Schmeichel for him to save.

Things got worse for Unai Emery’s side as they conceded twice in two minutes for Celtic to make it 2-2 at the break.

Speaking live on TNT Sports commentary (29 January), Lennon spoke about Celtic’s defending from Villa’s opportunity “Bizarre to say the least, really poor from Celtic.

“Celtic got away with one there, far too easy from a Celtic perspective.”

Villa did go on to win the game 4-2 thanks to Ollie Watkins’ effort and Rogers completing his hat-trick.

Aston Villa come out on top against Celtic

It was certainly an awful start from the Bhoys but credit to Villa, who came out of the traps absolutely firing and Ramsey was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet.

Although Emery’s side had the perfect start to the game, some complacency and an enforced change with Matty Cash forced off through injury, allowed their opponents to get back into the game.

At half-time, the Villans found all the hard work they had done in the first half had been undone in the space of two minutes, which meant a big second half was ahead.

Thankfully for Emery, his side managed to get back into the game and came out on top with a 4-2 win.

It was not made easy, especially after Watkins missed a penalty in spectacular fashion, but the three points ensured Villa are exactly where they would have wanted to be when they came into the game.
