Ian Wright mocks Wayne Rooney prediction for Wolves v Aston Villa score
Aston Villa will be held to a draw at Wolves this weekend according to Wayne Rooney, who was mocked by Ian Wright for his call on the West Midlands clash.
Unai Emery’s side came out on top against Celtic on Wednesday (29 January) to secure passage to the last 16 of the Champions League, now focusing on Saturday’s visit to Molineux (1 February).
Rooney, speaking on The Overlap (30 January, 57:15), agreed with Gary Neville’s prediction that the contest would finish all square as both sides continue their respective transfer business in the background.
Wright immediately told the duo to “bore off”, joining Roy Keane and Jill Scott in backing a Villans win by three goals to one.
“Yeah, I was going to say 1-1,” Rooney added after Neville initially predicted the scoreline.
“Bore off, will you?!”, Wright fired back.
“We’ll go Villa to win that one. Let’s go 3-1.”
Aston Villa must avoid European hangover at Wolves
Aston Villa have been accused earlier in the season of suffering European ‘hangovers’ with struggles in certain league games after a big Champions League night.
The Villans progressed via the top eight to the last 16 in style in midweek with their win over Celtic, as Morgan Rogers fired home a hat-trick to wrap up their passage.
Wolves have endured a poor season and relegation threat remains very real for Vitor Pereira’s side, so any points on the board will be hard-fought.

Their last outing resulted in a narrow 1-0 defeat by Arsenal at Molineux (25 January), during which both teams finished the match with 10 men – meaning regular midfielder Joao Gomes will be suspended for the weekend.
Unai Emery’s side remain within minor distance of the top four and five, sitting four points behind the Champions League places in their efforts to sustain a positive run of form.
In other Aston Villa news, the Villans are immediately seeking a replacement for Jhon Duran.
