Aston Villa in move to hijack Tottenham-Mathys Tel deal amid Sky Sports update
Aston Villa could end up hijacking Tottenham’s deal for Mathys Tel after they contacted Bayern Munich about a potential move, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Germany journalist reported via his personal X account (30 January) that while Spurs are the “most intense” in their pursuit at the moment, the Villans are looking at the striker to replace the outgoing Jhon Duran.
The report adds that Manchester United and Arsenal are two other Premier League sides who are also interested in acquiring the services of the 19-year-old.
“Been told that Aston Villa have also contacted FC Bayern about Mathys Tel in the past 24 hours,” Plettenberg wrote.
“Fabrice Hawkins was the first to report Aston Villa’s interest in replacing Jhon Duran with Tel.
“However, Tottenham are currently the most intense in their pursuit and are holding more concrete talks with Bayern.
“Manchester United and Arsenal have gathered information and held talks with the player’s agent. No decisions or agreements have been made yet.”
Aston Villa could perform the swoop of the window with Mathys Tel transfer
With the potential that Tel has, it’s not all that much of a surprise to see the youngster being looked at by most of the Premier League’s teams.
The 19-year-old has found himself out of favour in Munich this season with the attacker only making 14 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
His goal-scoring form hasn’t been at its best either with the attacker failing to net a single goal this term.
Last season, however, he was one of Munich’s most important players as he featured 41 times and contributed to 16 goals across all competitions.

Not only does this show that the youngster has a clinical nature within him but it also outlines one of the many reasons why the Villans likely want to sign him.
His versatility will also likely be playing a key part in their decision-making process as being able to play across the front three could end up being vital as the end of the season comes around.
