Neil Lennon wowed by ‘Fabulous’ moment in first half of Aston Villa v Celtic

Neil Lennon was left wowed by Morgan Rogers after his two early goals for Aston Villa against Celtic.

Rogers put his side 1-0 up after just three minutes before doubling his side’s lead two minutes later with a stunning strike into the top corner.

The Villains failed to hold on to their lead though and conceded in the 36th and 38th minute making the scores level at half-time.

Speaking live on TNT Sports commentary after the second goal (29 January, 8:06pm), Lennon said: “What a player, honestly he has been magnificent this season, he has the composure to get it out of his feet.

“Normally you’d think Kasper Schmeichel would save that one, but it’s such a good hit, fantastic start from Villa already.

“Lovely ball inside, here’s the ball inside to Rogers, fabulous hit, oh my goodness what a hit that is.”

Aston Villa need second half goals

Thanks to Rogers, the Villains had the ideal start to their tie against Celtic with two early goals putting Unai Emery’s side in a strong position as they seek three points against the Scottish Premiership side.

The second goal was a lovely strike that 22-year-old took perfectly to put into the top corner and double his side’s lead just minutes after he showed his quality by scoring the first goal too.

Their opponents did settle into the game as the half went on though and were eventually able to get their two minutes of glory with Adam Idah scoring twice to make it 2-2.

Villa will have been shaken by the withdrawal of Matty Cash who was forced off the pitch with an injury but they will need to lift their standards and put in a stronger second-half performance.

As it stands, Emery’s side are not sitting in a position to automatically go through to the knock-out stages of the competition meaning there is plenty of work to be done.
