Axel Disasi transfer: Aston Villa make official bid after Chelsea updates

Aston Villa have sent an “official bid” to Chelsea as they look to sign Axel Disasi on loan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist posted on X (29 January) that as Chelsea work to get players off their books before 3 February, Villa have now submitted a loan proposal until the end of the season.

Villa are proposing to pay a loan fee and cover Disasi’s entire salary to secure his services before the deadline passes, with Romano adding that a decision on the defender now rests with Chelsea.

Axel Disasi transfer a much-needed stop-gap for Aston Villa

Although Disasi’s time at Chelsea can’t exactly be called successful, Villa are still looking to get a player who appeared in a World Cup Final for France – and who at 26, is still some way off his peak years.

Furthermore, as the winter window approaches its climax, the Lions cannot afford to hang around when it comes to defensive reinforcements, with Unai Emery’s current options looking threadbare at best.

Diego Carlos’ exit to Fenerbahce being confirmed just days before Tyrone Mings suffered a new knee injury leaves Emery down to the bare bones at the back, particularly with Pau Torres still out.

Lucas Digne was even forced to play as a makeshift centre-back during Villa’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday, and although Lamare Bogarde is staying put at Villa Park, he’s not yet trusted in the middle.

As a result, signing Disasi for the rest of the season could prove to be a shrewd move, and with Chelsea currently overflowing with players, could be one which Villa can make permanent if things go well.
